Jürgen Dorme was born in Menen in 1980. He graduated as a graphic designer.
Jürgen grew up in the Barakken, a working-class neighbourhood in the Belgian city of Menen, situated between the river Leie and the French border. The colorful shopping street and the local architecture, as well as the Leie and its landscape, inspire him and often serve as the starting point for his work.
From a young age, he had a keen interest in drawing and painting. Later on, this interest was fueled by graffiti and graphic design. Through his fascination with design, graphics and art, he encounters the works of Max Bill, Anton Stankowski, Raoul De Keyser, Léon Wuidar, De Stijl, Bauhaus, ... which inspire him to develop his own creative process.
Environmental sampling
He collects, analyses and translates visual and/or emotional impressions from his immediate surroundings. Key environmental parameters such as composition, perspective, proportion, color and material aid him in capturing these impressions. Methods used to measure such parameters can be as diverse as the research and the effective implementation itself. The goal of this process is to obtain a strongly stylised representation of the original sample.
